![]() As I understand it this (and other results) indicate that some process or other is unsuccessfully attempting to login several times every minute! This is somewhat concerning to a noob like myself, and it's not clear to me how to identify the particular cause of all this even if I am understanding it correctly. Indeed, having researched pam- faillock a little, it seems to me that some process other than myself is triggering this (worryingly so).Įxamining the tally-directory where the log-in failure records (or the last three of them) are kept with the command I discover the following type of result Īll of this when i personally have most definitely not attempted any such log-ins. Once in the graphical environment however and faced with the sudo-pw-prompt, I am "apparently" entering the password incorrectly the vast majority of the time despite doing so with the utmost care. To illustrate - prior to issuing I log in to the user account by typing the password accurately virtually every time. I'm very confident however that I am typing the password correctly, so it's not clear to me what could be responsible for triggering this mechanism. It really looks like it could be connected to this. At some point however the problem seemed to resolve itself - during which time I did a full system update (which I believe was only about 4 packages), Shortly after this, the problem re-arose and persists now. None of my efforts to solve the problem appeared to have had any effect today. The sudo command functioned properly for this user without any problem with authentication of the password. During this time I also created an additional test-user account in an identical fashion to the primary user account. During this time I double-checked password was correct, reset password anyway (despite being correct), removed user from wheel group and then added user again, and checked that /etc/sudoers was in order. ![]() Problem reoccurred today and seemed insoluble for several hours. Problem first occurred yesterday, and appeared to have been solved after I re-added my user to the wheel group (although I did not initially check that membership of the group had in fact been lost). System behaves as if I've entered an incorrect password when i attempt to issue Sudo command.Īrch installation is about 9 days old, and my typical usage is to launch a rather minimal Xorg server environment (with I3wm) using.
